The end of this week signified a point in the year that was a 2/3 of the current marking period, 1/3 of the current trimester, 2/9 of this half of the school year, and 1/9 of the school year total. Also, it was homecoming week. Monday’s review over the topics we had learned the past 3 weeks was surprisingly helpful. Will the setup on weeks where we do have tests be similar: Content Monday through Friday, review Monday, and tests on Tuesdays? On Tuesday we took a test over Chapter 2, and I must say that although it was a little difficult, I felt like all of the concepts, such as continuity and infinite limits, which I found to be difficult had clicked just in time for the test. As part of the NHS blood drive committee, I had to miss Wednesday's lab, but on Thursday, I was able to catch up pretty quickly on our intro to derivatives. I understood the general lesson of the lab by the end of class, but was still a little confused as to how some of the answers were found. I'm sure next week, with the actual lesson, I'll be able to fully understand, especially since this lab was a little more conceptually abstract. Are derivatives just an advanced version of continuity and limits, or is it a completely new concept? Are derivatives actually what we are studying next, or am I just assuming incorrectly?
One major revelation I had this week is that I learn quite efficiently when the topics that we explore in class are looked at in different ways, such as lessons, labs, and homework. Repetition of mathematical concepts is what makes them stick for me.
